Here at Art Weaver SAORI Studio we have supplies of a wide variety of hand weaving yarns for sale, including SAORI cottons, wools, linen and silks. Other weaving yarns at the studio for sale include a range of assorted fine cottons and wools as well as vintage yarns in many different fibres and blends.
Yarn spun for weaving is quite different from yarn spun for hand knitting. Weaving yarn is spun more firmly and may be finer and smoother than yarn intended for hand knitting. It is intended to be made into hand woven cloth, including garments, which means it should machine wash and wear well. Yarn for a warp must be able to take a reasonable amount of tension as well as lots of abrasion by the heddles and reed during the weaving process.
SAORI PRE-WOUND WARPS
Unique to SAORI looms, these pre-wound warps mean you can get weaving even quicker! Available in varying widths and lengths (up to 30 metres), we always carry a range of black cotton pre-wound warps in stock.
These warps can be woven with any weft yarn and the black allows for any combination of colours. Black wool warps, perfect for weaving with a wool weft, are also available to order.
SAORI limited edition pre-wound warps are also available at times. These include colourful and textured cottons, wools, silks, linen and cashmere. All limited edition warps are 200 threads wide by 6 metres long. Enough for up to 3 scarves, a jacket or a couple of tops!
The yarns from SAORI Japan are all suitable for weft and most suitable for both weft and warp. SAORI yarns can be ordered in sets or individually and a selection of these yarns is always in stock.
Samples of the SAORI yarns are held in the studio and we will order cones of specific fibres and colours for you as needed. These yarns can only be purchased through an authorised SAORI studio in your country.
