FAQ’S

Do I need to know anything about weaving to enjoy a SAORI session?

You don’t need to have any previous knowledge or experience of weaving to enjoy a SAORI weaving session.  Complete beginners as well as those with some (or even lots) of experience will enjoy SAORI weaving for themselves. You will probably want to come back for more!

What do I need to bring?

Make sure you are prepared to enjoy yourself!  You don’t need to bring anything as there is a huge selection of yarns and fibres to use in your SAORI weaving. Water, tea and coffee is also provided in the studio.

How much will I weave in a 3 hour session?

You will only really know at the end of your SAORI weaving session! Depending on your own approach to learning and the choices you make, you can weave anywhere from 50cm in length to 150cm in length in just one 3 hour session.

What will I make in my first SAORI weaving session?

SAORI handwoven cloth can be used for as many things as your imagination will allow. The way to really enjoy yourself is to not set limitations and expectations but appreciate the entire creative process. Your very first unique SAORI cloth may become a table mat, a scarf, a bag or even a cushion. You might even hang it on the wall and admire it too!

What kinds of materials are available to use in my SAORI weaving?

Pretty much anything and everything is available for you to choose from and use in your weaving.  Cottons & wools in many colours and textures as well as silk, mixed fibre blends and even Japanese paper yarns are all available. Together with recycled silk cloth, a tub of colourful wool roving and hand-dyed mohair locks, you won’t run out of choices for your very own SAORI hand woven cloth.

Are there SAORI sessions for children?

Primary school aged children are very welcome to attend either a 2hr TASTER session or a 3hr BASIC  Session together with a paying adult. The studio does not have the facilities to have additional children or adults who are not engaged in a weaving session.

Can I bring my baby or toddler?

Because of the type of activities, equipment and limited space, babies and toddlers cannot be accommodated in the weaving studio. It is a lovely time to enjoy yourself in this creative space and return home re-energised!

Can I bring and use my own handspun yarn?

If you would like to use some of your own special handspun yarn in your SAORI weaving, you are welcome to bring it along. We will weigh your yarn and deduct it from the final weight of your finished SAORI cloth, charging you only for studio materials used in your weaving.

How can I buy a SAORI loom?

As a fully licensed and accredited SAORI Weaving Studio and SAORI Dealer, we sell SAORI looms, accessories and weaving yarn. Limited stock of the most popular SAORI WX60 looms and the SAORI Piccolo40 looms are kept in the studio. To find out more about the looms and accessories, please check out the page SAORI Looms & Products on this website. You can also email or call us to discuss your weaving needs (and wants!)

Is there parking onsite?
